Eugene Meleshkevich: The treasure of my life
From my childhood I knew that God exists. Parents told me about God and taught me to pray. At home we had children’s Bible. On Sundays my dad usually took my brother and me to an orthodox church. I wasn’t excited about that at that time but today I am grateful to my dad for that. In the Bible, the book of Proverbs says: “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Pr 22:6). My parents were able to cultivate in me the honor towards God from my childhood. When I was a small boy I loved to communicate with God, ask for or tell Him something. I recall I dreamed of a bicycle and I asked God for it. And on my birthday when I turned 8 years old my mom took me outside where a new orange collapsible bicycle called “Aist” waited for me. I was on the seventh heaven!
In 2011 when I was 26 I got the New Testament right in my hands. A stranger on the street gave it to me. I began to read it and through God’s Word I got to know God.
In 2012 just out of curiosity together with my fellow guys we visited a youth meeting in New Life Church. I enjoyed the meeting and the next day I decided to attend Sunday service. So I attend this church ever since. Later I began to serve as an usher. I thank God for a chance to be useful to Him. I also thank Him very much for my friends.
It was in spring before Easter, our pastor Vyacheslav Goncharenko invited brothers to visit villages and tell people about Jesus Christ. I joined the team; we raised funds and bought food supplies for the needy. I participated in several trips and really enjoyed it. Later the pastor offered me to take responsibility over this ministry.
So today, when I talk with people about God, minister to them I feel that I do what I enjoy and fulfill God’s mission to go into the whole world and preach the Gospel. It’s always such a delight to realize that God uses you to encourage, comfort somebody. In prayer sickness leave, life situations change. That’s wonderful! People are always grateful when we come to see them. They feel that somebody cares for them and this motivates me to keep on doing my best for them.
It’s amazing that when we serve the Lord He meets all our needs. The Bible says in Matthew 6:33: “Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”. God is so wonderful; He has confirmed this truth many times. He says that we shouldn’t care what we shall eat or wear but seek the most important thing – His will.
For some time, I prayed and asked the Lord about a car. I couldn’t afford to buy it. In 2015 one evening in October I got a call from one brother who invited me to come over for a talk. I came. He said, “Eugene, I have been praying and God has put on my heart a desire. My wife supports me on this. We would like to give you our car. You travel to villages so you need it.” At first I thought it was a joke and couldn’t believe it. But the brother sounded very concrete and serious. Praise God for him. Today I use this car to serve the Lord.
It wasn’t the only time when the Lord supplied my needs. There were situations seemed impossible but God has never failed me. He is faithful to His promise: “Seek you first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”. When we do something for His sake, share what is important to Him He works on our problems.
Here is one story I would like to share. One day our team travelled to a village in Minsk region. We talked with people about God, prayed for them. Somebody asked us to pay a visit to a couple who were both disabled. The husband had been hit by a car and now was in a wheelchair; the wife underwent a surgery (removal of hematoma after a brain attack) and lay in bed. Our guys preached the Good News to them. We told them that Jesus Christ loves them and wants them healed. The spouses believed the Word of God, the woman was touched deeply. We continued to visit and pray with them. A month passed and when we came next time we saw Zoya Ivanovna (the wife) standing near the window. At first we got confused but then realized that she had been healed. No words could describe our joy! Later she shared that she kept saying the words of prayer we taught them: “By the strips of Jesus Christ I am healed.” She tried to do her best to get on her feet and one day she made it! That day after a long time she herself was able to go to the bathroom. But Zoya Ivanovna didn’t stop. Every day she kept saying these words of prayer: “By the strips of Jesus Christ I am healed.” Today Zoya Ivanovna walks normally; her arm which she couldn’t move before works. These all came as a result of her firmly believing the Lord Who heals. Watching his wife her husband Vladimir Ivanovich started to do attempts to get out of his wheelchair and he made it. He began to move around his place with the help of a walking stick. As soon as he began to walk his children decided to get rid of the wheelchair, “Keep on walking, dad, time of sitting in a wheelchair is over!” Now he walks without a stick and he even showed us how he can dance. Our God is amazing! He does miracles; our part is to believe. We pay regular visits to Zoya Ivanovna and Vladimir Ivanovich, talk and make friends with them.
God saw my wiliness to fellowship with Him and He brought me to Himself and I’m grateful that He did it. I love the Lord more than anything else. He is everything to me. He is the reason of my life. Every day convinces me that Jesus Christ is mine the most precious treasure. Each and everyone is dear to the Lord, He is our help in troubles, He is always by our side and He is never late. We should only trust Him. He is wonderful!
